Non-alcoholic Grog: The scariest recipe suggestion for a healthy recipe goes to Lauren, purely because anything with things floating to the surface is a Top Idea, particularly after skimming soggy plank-walking paddlers out of the canal.
If you want to try her recipe, mix half a cup of cranberry juice with half a cup of orange and add as many whole grapes you like to enjoy a “Blood and Eyeballs Surprise”
Great to see some creative bandana badges. The best design goes to Euan for his gory skull outline, carefully done but not overdone.
A “Top Pirate” prize, donated by the Burn family, goes to one particular youth who seized the opportunity to try things, including jumping between open boats, make a great paddling effort and finishing with a humongous pirate leap into the Canal.
The grand finale was of course 'Walking the plank', (surprise, surprise we all got wet!) We finished off with some unusual drinks to celebrate what fun we'd had!
What a great end to the summer.
When I found out that I was able to get into a large canoe I was overjoyed as I had only been in the smaller kayaks before. We set off (with 2 others in my boat) and had a great game of collecting brightly coloured plastic balls and putting them in the large canoes. A lot of splashing of pirates was done.
Towards the end of the session we took turns in walking the plank (two large canoes strapped together with a plank sticking out manned by George and Vikki) with me doing it twice so that I got totally soaked which I love when I’m on the canal. It was dark by the time we got out and changed into our dry clothes and then we had a choice of very welcome grog to enjoy. We got to make our own mix of lots of different juices and there was a competition to make the most creative grog and I won it!
I had a brilliant time canoeing and kayaking and I have the pool to look forward to next Tuesday. I can’t wait!
Thanks to everyone who helped.
